The Nimble Weaver

Little spider on a thread

Spinning at your sticky web,

Silently you wind each strand,

Weave it to a pattern planned.

Nimble weaver,

Hear me sigh
All that work to catch a fly!

Redesigning the wildlife area

Our wildlife and pond area had gradually become overgrown and unusable. But now with the enthusiasm of one parent and the prospect of obtaining some funding, we have developed this space
into a great environment for play and learning.

Despite the long hot summer our plants have thrived, the bean plants have produced a couple of kilos of beans, our pumpkins have grown as have the sunflowers which are now taller than all of us. Today we had surprise new neighbours, one of them decided to have a look at what we were doing.

The pumpkins, beans and sunflowers are coming on nicely thanks to all the expert watering that they have been getting. There is always time to stop and have a bug hunt in the willow dome, the worms and wood lice seem to love hiding under our logs.

Today we planted out the pumpkin and runner bean plants that we have grown from seed. Our sunflowers are also ready for replanting into larger pots.

Another lovely day and we've been out admiring the daffodils that we planted in the autumn. We looked closely at the willow and noticed that there are buds appearing.

On one of the rare sunny mornings we've had, we decided we needed to get outside and move our bird-feeder. We topped up the containers with both nuts and seed as we have lots of visiting birds throughout the winter months.
The acorns that we planted have become rather waterlogged so we have moved them onto the wall so they can dry out. Our willow has been really blown about in the stormy weather and needs completely reshaping but we decided that this was a job for another day.
We checked the pond which has begun to clear but today had patches of ice all around the edges.
