Kenya was our chosen country for this week and we spent a large proportion of the week using our creative skills! The children used different shapes to paint print a decorative band to put on their homemade drums, whilst others opted to make shakers. On Tuesday we invited African drummer, Daniel, into Pre-School and he brought his djembe drums in for the children to play and begin learning a song.
When discussing the Kenyan flag the children noticed the shield in the middle and we had a go at making our own shields using the colours from the flag.
Our story of the week has been Handa’s surprise, introducing the children to a variety of African animals as well as fruits. On our tuff tray we created a jungle habitat for our jungle animals with rocks, water and grass.
In other areas of learning this week we have been practicing our running, skipping and jumping outside in the garden and our rhythm skills with our regular musical instrument sessions.
With the sun shining all week we were able to play outside every day, enjoying the sand play and riding on the trikes and scooters. We were also excited to harvest our two pumpkins, some beans and a giant cucumber which will enjoy at snack time.
Next week we will be moving on to Canada!
