For our travel and aeroplane topic, Collaton Airways came to preschool this week!
The children made passports; using a mirror they looked in detail at the features of their face and drew their passport photos. Once they had their backpacks on, the children were asked to find the boarding pass with their name on and take it to the ticket office ready to board the plane. The baggage handlers were on hand to help load their luggage into the hold before taking a seat on the aircraft to listen to our safety briefing. We were very fortunate that several “pilots” stepped up this week when the Tannoy call came out to say the pilot had unfortunately been taken ill at short notice! After take off, the cabin crew came through to serve refreshments before we finally landed at our destination and the children took their luggage off on their holidays.
Our table top activities have included sorting holiday clothes into suitcases based on whether we are going somewhere sunny or snowy as well as looking at our globe and picking the different countries the children would like to visit.
The children proved very creative with our junk modelling throughout the week and we have had some wonderful creations. One of which was an airport runway, lounge and aeroplane. For our mathematics this week we have been looking at size language and ordering aeroplanes from smallest to largest as well as number work, counting how many aeroplanes are on the cards.
Whilst outside we have been taking part in an obstacle course, allowing the children the opportunity to work on their balancing, weaving, climbing and jumping skills.
