We continued our focus on weather this week with various sensory experiences on our tuff tray. We began the week with slime snowballs and cotton wool snow before moving on to water and ice play later in the week. The children also had a nice sticky time creating their winter collages!
We have been discussing the different seasons and completing activities to help strengthen their understanding. They were asked to sort clothing items into whether they were appropriate for summer or winter, it was surprising how the majority of children were ready to wear a rubber ring whether it was sunny or snowy!
Our daily temperature recording continues and we have begun to see a slow drop in our morning readings.
The children and Laura were back in the kitchen to use up our final pumpkins for the year, this time creating a pumpkin soup. The children enjoyed the soup for our snack during the early part of the week. We are always so impressed with the amount of children who are willing to experiment and try new foods.
After reading the story “pumpkin soup”, the children were treated to a puppet show of the story before then taking turns at acting it out with the props themselves. On Thursday we spent the afternoon diving into our dressing up box. The children thoroughly enjoyed dressing up as different animals, fairies and various occupations.
Hopefully you have all received your newsletter giving you the dates of our upcoming festivities. We have begun practicing our songs so if your child has come home singing Christmas songs, you now know why!
