In the early part of this week we celebrated Burns Night; the children quickly learnt that dancing a Highland Fling involves lots of energetic bouncing! As well as our dancing we had a go at playing the bagpipes, where we all learnt it takes a lot of breath to get even one note! In small groups the children were busy in the kitchen making shortbread for us to enjoy at our snack times.
For our musical instrument this week we had the tenor horn, so many of the children impressed us with their ability to get several consecutive notes from the horn.
This week we used our skills of imagination to create our own stories with the use of story cubes. We had some fantastic stories including a robber who went to the Queens castle to steal the crown, only to decide to fly away on a unicorn instead. The unicorn then dropped the thief in the sea where they found a clock in a treasure chest! We are going to continue to work on our stories over the coming weeks to see what other adventures we can go on.
For our crafts this week we introduced a new medium, watercolours. To tie in with our learning of Scotland the children worked on a 1 – 1 basis with an adult to create a painting of a thistle. We had some fantastic results and they are now proudly displayed on our noticeboard in the snack room.
Next week there is great excitement in preschool as we will be going up to the church to have a go at bell ringing!
